Vent-Axia’s Lo-Carbon Solo Plus and Lo-Carbon Tempra Shortlisted Awards

Lo-Carbon TempraVent-Axia has had two products shortlisted in this year’s prestigious Retro Expo Awards. Both the company’s Lo-Carbon Solo Plus and Lo-Carbon Tempra are finalists in the Building Services Product Innovation of the Year category.

Winners will be revealed at a ceremony taking place at the Business Design Centre, London, on December the 5th following the UK’s only retrofit exhibition and conference - Retro Expo and the Retrofit Summit.

The Retro Expo Awards recognises excellence in retrofit products, projects and people across the domestic, commercial and public sector markets. All categories are assessed by a panel of experts in their field which is jointly chaired by Dr Peter Rickaby (RIBA and Rickaby Thompson Associates) and Professor Paul Ruyssevelt (University College London, Technology Strategy Board). With the Building Services Product Innovation of the Year category the judges are looking for a development that has demonstrated a significant technological advance or brought about a step change in retrofit delivery.

Lo-Carbon Solo PlusThis year Vent-Axia’s design innovation within the retrofit market has been recognised by two of its refurbishment products reaching the final. The first is the Lo-Carbon Solo Plus, a centrifugal bathroom/toilet fan launched by Vent-Axia in February 2013 following a re-design of the company’s popular Solo Plus range.

Key advances of the Lo-Carbon Solo Plus include enhanced aesthetics, a rise in efficiency levels, a reduction in sound levels and an improvement in ease of installation and maintenance. It also features a unique ‘datalogger’ which records the fan’s daily use to help landlords know if a fan has been operating or whether a tenant has switched it off.

Lo-Carbon TempraThe second shortlisted product is Vent-Axia’s revolutionary Lo-Carbon Tempra. Designed specifically to offer affordable easy to install heat recovery to the residential refurbishment market, the Tempra was the UK’s first single room heat recovery unit that can be retrofitted through a 100mm diameter hole in the wall. This allows inefficient extract fans to be easily replaced with a discreet, low energy, continuously running alternative that offers up to 84% heat recovery.

Commenting Jenny Smith, Product Marketing Manager at Vent-Axia said: “We are delighted to be recognised for our product innovations within the refurbishment market. Britain has 8.5 million properties over 60 years old and with ageing homes there is a huge potential to improve building performance while cutting carbon emissions. At Vent-Axia we are committed to developing products that meet the needs of these homes.”

Both the Lo-Carbon Solo Plus and the Lo-Carbon Tempra are part of Vent-Axia’s Lo-Carbon™ collection. The aim of the Lo-Carbon initiative is to offer the latest low carbon ventilation technology in order to reduce building energy consumption and so carbon emissions.
