IOSH Working Safely e-learning Course Launched by the British Safety Council

The course provides people at any level, in any sector, with a sound grounding in the essentials of health and safety, teaching them all they need to know to keep themselves and their colleagues safe and healthy at work.

Delivered over the internet, the course brings home exactly why health and safety is such an important part of everyone’s job, providing the information needed to encourage people to work safely. It covers personal responsibilities for working safely; identifying common hazards at work; the organisation’s responsibilities for protecting workers and others from harm; basic risk assessment principles; basic risk controls for different situations; and the importance of reporting incidents and near misses. There is also a session on how to prevent pollution and minimise waste, meaning that health and safety and environmental basics are covered in a single course.

Highly engaging, the course can be accessed online 24 hours a day, seven days a week, allowing delegates to learn at their own pace and convenience. No prior knowledge of the subject is required before sitting it, and the course focuses on best practice, rather than legislation, making it suitable for both UK and international candidates.

John Phillips, director of qualifications and standards at the British Safety Council, said: “This new e-learning course provides people at work with a vital understanding of the basics of health and safety and environmental management, and helps support a positive safety culture within an organisation. The course has been approved by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), the biggest professional health and safety body in the world, making it a highly respected training programme.

“E-learning is a convenient, flexible and cost-effective way of delivering health, safety and environmental training to staff, since employees do not have to take time away from work at set times, but can instead take the course on the internet at a time that suits both them and their employer.”

Upon completion of the course, delegates who go on to successfully complete an online multi-choice assessment and online hazard spotting exercises will be awarded a certificate from IOSH.

The launch of the course follows the development last year by the British Safety Council of an e-learning version of IOSH Managing Safely, a highly popular course aimed at managers and supervisors in all organisations and all sectors.

The IOSH Working Safely e-learning course costs just £85 + VAT.
