TV presenter and champion of sustainability, Charlie Luxton, was today announced as the VIP guest who will officially launch City College Plymouth’s state-of-the-art ABB Energy Centre.
Passionate about both the green agenda and architecture, he is the perfect choice to open the new centre (Thursday 8 December), which is at the heart of a £1.84 million redevelopment of the College’s construction faculty.
Charlie, who has appeared on a variety of programmes, including DIY SOS: The Big Build and Britain’s Hidden Heritage, has spent the last ten years designing and building sustainable buildings and working on environmental community projects.
“I am highly impressed at the extent City College Plymouth is connecting with industry to promote the sustainability agenda, both educationally and commercially” said Charlie.
“The ABB Energy Centre will play a key role in demonstrating the value of low carbon technology to a variety of audiences and I am certain it will bring huge benefits to the region’s economy for years to come.”
Principal at City College Plymouth, Viv Gillespie, said everyone connected with the ABB Energy Centre was delighted that Charlie had agreed to launch it.
“It perfectly reflects Charlie’s philosophy in terms of sustainable architecture and the importance of energy efficiency,” said Viv.
“We are thoroughly looking forward to showing him the scope of what we will be able to deliver for students and companies alike at the ABB Energy Centre, which we are confident will put the College at the forefront of the sustainability agenda.”
The hi-tech ABB Energy Centre is the focal point of pioneering new initiative being led by the College which connects education and industry with the very latest low carbon technology and methods.
