Technology developed by a North East company is helping to improve the safety of the half a million visitors attending this year’s Wimbledon tennis championships.
Sunderland-based Current Thinking, which specialises in audio equipment to meet the most exacting fire and safety regulations, first installed its equipment at the world’s most famous tennis centre two years ago as part of the multi-million redevelopment of the Wimbledon complex.
In the run-up to this year’s championships the company upgraded its system, introducing a new more user friendly graphics front end for the logging system in the police control room, as well as re-commissioning the newly developed areas around the court No 3 development
Explains Current Thinking Managing Director Anthony Smith “Our VoCALL system combines both fire telephones and disabled refuge points with incident logging facilities throughout Wimbledon and during the championships its 138 points are used by wardens, security staff and members of the public to speak to the police control through a secure and monitored system.
“As you can imagine, with such a high profile event and such huge numbers of people, the system is used to deal with all kinds of incidents and, as a result of our experience since the initial installation, we have refined the software to reflect Wimbledon’s particular needs.”
Current Thinking equipment is installed in many leading developments and buildings in the UK and abroad—including Tate Britain, Dublin Airport and many of the tallest towers in Dubai—and the company has gained recognition from Network Rail for the quality of its products.
