iwap201Extronics, a leading global developer and manufacturer of hazardous area equipment, has today announced the launch of the iWAP201A, a wireless access point which is certified by ATEX for use in Zone 2 and 21 hazardous areas.

The 802.11 a/b/g wireless access point has a 316L stainless steel enclosure to facilitate deployment in potentially explosive, harsh, wet, and corrosive environments. Operating at either 2.4GHz or 5GHz, this model is equipped with a single radio and is easily configurable via an in-built web interface

The iWAP201A is an entry level solution which has optional features such surge arrestors for lightning suppression, enclosure heating or cooling for extreme ambient temperatures and various antenna alternatives.   This flexibility allows customers to specify a solution suitable to their particular requirement, be it a chemical plant, an offshore platform, an extreme extraction facility etc.

Extronics Managing Director, John Hartley commented "The iWAP201A fills an important role in the development of a complete range of wireless solutions for hazardous areas. This is a low-cost, easy-to-deploy unit which can be used either to create a wireless hotspot or a point-to-point link. It fits perfectly with our existing wireless ranges and offers customers a real alternative when unlocking data from hazardous areas."
