Over the last ten years, the sustainable product market recorded strong growth supported by an increase in the demand of such products by consumers. In reply to this, manufacturers submitted environmental claims and self-certifications often without validation or certification of conformity to the rules applied therein.
Such trend towards "green" products is also found in the electric motor sector. As a matter of fact, USA and Canada set out stricter energy efficiency requirements thus raising minimum levels of efficiency for three-phase motors, with a strong impact on production and business organization.
The EISA Directive Energy Independence and Security Act - 2007, imposing in the USA and Canada Nema Premium Efficiency IE3 as minimum level of efficiency as from 19th December 2010, put pressure on the market and on the electric motor manufacturers, as well as on the need for an independent certification body that is super partes.
UL Environment aims at ensuring transparency and uniformity in the interpretation of sustainability rules in favour of manufacturers and consumers. This is an alternative to get the validation of environmental claims and the product certification. UL Environment can validate moreover the Energy Efficiency Certification.
UL Environment reviewed the whole range of Lafert Nema Premium IE3 products and certificated that they comply with the strictest energy efficiency standards provided for by EISA directives in the USA and in Canada. The nameplate indicates its certification logo UL, Energy Verified.
In addition, Lafert was inserted in the "Database of Validated and Certified Products": an important online instrument that UL puts at consumers and producers disposal in order to identify certified manufacturers and check the product compliance to the rules.
