hartingAt Railtex 2011, HARTING is featuring a number of new developments in its range of connectivity solutions for the rail industry.

These new developments are designed to address the challenges presented by the increasing number of electrical and electronic components that are being installed on board trains to meet customer expectations and exploit the capabilities of advanced technologies. Key application areas include passenger information and entertainment, safety, automatic passenger counting and onboard computer systems.

New products from HARTING include the Gigabit module - part of the Han-Modular® connector system – which is designed for applications involving high data transfer rates in harsh environments. Protected by a die-cast metal housing, the new module allows signal and power contacts to be combined in the same unit.

HARTING is also exhibiting a range of Ethernet products to meet the demand for high-speed signal and data transmission in the central backbones that are now being installed on trains to support structured Ethernet networks. In addition to offering a wide range of Ethernet switches, HARTING can supply all the cabling for the Ethernet backbone as well as the connectors and inter-car cabling.

For the rail industry, HARTING supplies M12 crimp connectors which are easy to assemble and have an extremely low profile. Panel feed-throughs and adapters for use in and around control cabinets are also available. HARTING also now offers M12 crimp 8-pole (four twisted pair) Gigabit connectors for internal car wiring applications, making it possible to install Gigabit backbone networks throughout the train.

Complete inter-car links are also provided based on Han-Modular®, Han Quintax® and Han® EEE inserts in HPR upper and lower housings fitted to the power and signal cables which are routed through corrugated plastic hose.

HARTING was the first company in the world to be awarded an IRIS quality certificate: the leading international standard covering components for the rail industry.

The company is also featuring its new 244-page publication: “HARTING Users’ Guide: Transportation”, which covers all aspects of connectivity as applied to rail applications
