RWE Innogy, Stadtwerke München (SWM - Munich Municipal Utility) and Siemens have entered into a joint venture to build the offshore wind farm Gwynt y Môr (Welsh for “wind in the sea”). RWE Innogy will hold a 60% stake in this joint venture, Stadtwerke München 30% and Siemens 10%. The total investment amounts to more than two billion Euros, including the grid connection to the coast.

siemens logoStatkraft and Siemens Announce Framework Agreement for Photovoltaic Projects in Italy

Siemens Energy and the Norwegian utility Statkraft have signed an agreement to build solar plants in Italy. With a total capacity of 40 megawatts (MW), this is the largest PV framework agreement Siemens has negotiated in Europe to date. Siemens will perform the engineering, project management, and turnkey construction of the photovoltaic plants. The exclusive framework agreement includes Statkraft´s project pipeline for photovoltaic plants in Italy. Construction of the first solar plant is expected to begin in spring 2010. After grid connection, scheduled for late that year, the solar plants will supply ecofriendly power to approximately 14,000 Italian households.

planning portal logoCommunities and Local Government has unveiled its draft climate change planning policy statement (PPS). The PPS combines and updates the policy set out in the existing PPS 1 supplement and PPS 22 on renewable energy.

The statement, now out for consultation, provides a planning framework to drive progress towards meeting the UK’s targets to reduce greenhouse gases, use more renewable and low-carbon energy and plan for the effect of climate change.
