ElectricSafe Gains Mass Support from Electrical Self-Certification Scheme
- Published: Tuesday, 23 July 2013 16:08
The ElectricSafe Register has gained the support of five out of the seven UKAS Accredited, DCLG authorised electrical self-certification scheme operators in a milestone agreement which brought them together to promote the use of ElectricSafe, a register designed to make it easier for consumers to find competent, registered electricians in England and Wales.
A formal declaration of intent, signed by BSI, Benchmark, NAPIT Registration, OFTEC, and Stroma Certification over the past few weeks, will see competent, registered electricians from each of these scheme providers automatically included on the ElectricSafe website. The organisations themselves have also committed to taking an active role in the mutual governance of the ElectricSafe Register. Though members of these supporting companies will be registered automatically, this does not affect ElectricSafe’s policy of encouraging Full Scope Electrical members of the other DCLG approved Competent Person Scheme providers to join.
Commenting on this agreement, ElectricSafe Director, Martin Bruno said: “This is really a momentous achievement for the register. Since its launch, ElectricSafe has been committed to an inclusive, cooperative approach. Our vision is for all competent, registered electricians to be included in one register, under one brand that consumers can understand – and for governance of the register to be representative of the electrical industry as a whole. This agreement is a fundamental milestone on the road to realising that vision.”
John Martin, Managing Director of Benchmark, noted: “It’s vital that consumers recognise the importance of using a competent, registered electrician. Benchmark is committed to working together with other representatives of the electrical industry to promote this message.”
Mike Inman, Competent Person Scheme Product Technical Manager at BSI, commented: “BSI constantly looks for ways to ensure our members are recognised by the widest audience of consumers. The ElectricSafe Register is a solution which we are confident will increase the recognition of our Part P registered Electricians in a way that complements Kitemark.com.”
NAPIT Registration Managing Director, David Cowburn, observed: “It’s great to see that these organisations are willing to work together. This agreement means we are making it much easier for consumers to find a competent, registered electrician in their area.”
Jeremy Hawksley, Director General of OFTEC noted: “Increasing promotion of competent electricians by working together will ensure more consumers make the right choices. OFTEC believe this will significantly raise awareness of electrical safety in the home.”
Matt Ferguson, Managing Director of Stroma Certification, stated: “Stroma Certification is always seeking new ways to deliver added value to our members, and our CPS scheme members in England and Wales now benefit from an additional mark of certification from ElectricSafe, a strong common brand which will be easily recognisable to householders.”
The ElectricSafe Register is free to join and open to all full scope electricians registered with one of the seven DCLG authorised electrical Competent Person Scheme providers for England and Wales. For more information, and to join, visit: www.electricsaferegister.co.uk/why-join-electricsafe.aspx
