The Electrical Contractors' Association (ECA) and the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) have signed an agreement to work together as ‘Partners in Building Services Excellence’.

The formal agreement was signed at ECA Headquarters in London by CIBSE’s Chief Executive, Stephen Matthews, and ECA Group CEO, David Pollock.

This announcement concludes several months of discussions to formalise the existing links and collaboration between the two organisations, and to identify ways to more effectively work together to influence policy makers in Government on engineering and sustainability issues, as well as driving industry standards and good practice and delivering enhanced benefits and information provision to their members.
 
President of CIBSE, Rob Manning, said: “Buildings account for 45 per cent of carbon emissions, yet innovative services design in partnership with competent implementation can deliver dramatic improvements in energy efficiency. By collaborating this is just one area where CIBSE and the ECA can share best practice. Being able to access the expertise of the electrical contracting community will also be of particularly great value to our members.”
 
By becoming ‘Partners in Building Services Excellence’, both parties are formally committing to work more closely together to develop and promote excellence in building services engineering standards, while sharing access to member benefits and services.
 
ECA Group CEO, David Pollock said: “As key players in the building services industry, ECA and CIBSE are a perfect fit. We are firmly committed to forming strong alliances with prominent industry bodies, such as CIBSE, and see it as vitally important, particularly during these challenging times. CIBSE is the professional body that exists to support the Science, Art and Practice of building services engineering, by providing members and the public with information and education services and promoting the spirit of fellowship which guides our work.
